Junior Olympic Levels of Play

The Ohio Valley Region/USA Volleyball uses three main levels of play:

  • National
  • American
  • Regional

The Vipers Volleyball Club will create teams in each level of play as needed and appropriate. Our focus is to challenge our club members with an appropriate level of competition.

Also, in order to provide high school-aged players with an opportunity to continue playing volleyball in the offseason with less of a time and financial commitment, we hope to offer a High School Regional-Intramural option. With enough players, we’d create a team that will practice and play in just a handful of tournaments, thereby minimizing both the financial and time commitments of each player.

Players will develop their skills at their own pace but if appropriately challenged, each player can raise his or her own level play.

Our goal is to ensure each player is placed on a team in the appropriate age division and division of play.

The National division is for the elite player and team. The time and financial commitment in the National level of play is much greater than in the other two divisions. These teams could practice up to two to three times per week and play in 10 or more tournaments throughout Ohio and the Midwest. An opportunity also exists for National level teams to compete in the national championship tournament.

While the American division is a step down from the National level teams, the talent level is very similar. The main difference is in the time and financial commitment required. These teams play at a high level and could practice as many as three times per week with 10 or more tournament dates, including the OVR regional and state championships.

Regional level teams allow players to compete at a higher level than a local recreation program. This competitive environment allows players to develop their skills with a less-demanding time commitment than the National and American levels as well as a lesser financial commitment. These teams will practice up to two times per week until tournament season begins and will compete in 6-10 tournaments within a two-hour drive. Regional level teams also may compete in the OVR Regional Championships held in Columbus.

All three of the above levels of play require players to try out to demonstrate they have the appropriate skill level to compete.

Other options for play within the Vipers Volleyball Club include:

  • Recreational Programs (no travel, aside from the local host facility)
  • High School Intramural Program (local league with minimal time commitment)

We also hope to offer private lessons, both for groups and individuals, as well as conditioning, plyometric and agility training.
